I am excited at the opportunity to be involved in the dynamic initiatives that are being taken to create meaningful connections between the arts and the community. I have a very diverse and comprehensive background in the arts with specialized experience in art history, museums, and arts education as well as extensive administrative experience.
I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Art History at the Pennsylvania State University in May 2011 with a minor in Architectural History. During my undergraduate career I pursued a rounded education in art and architectural history, taking several survey courses that covered ancient through modern styles, masters, and techniques as well as more specialized courses in American, Asian, Baroque, Islamic, and Rococo art and architecture. I also took several studios in graphic and architectural design. I completed my Master of Arts in Art Education at The Ohio State University in August 2013 with an interdisciplinary specialization in Analysis of Material Culture.
I was the Education Director at the Aiken Center for the Arts in Aiken, South Carolina. My responsibilities included the comprehensive development and management of arts education programs for the ACA. I developed the curriculum for all classes, camps, and workshops and managed all aspects of the program including program registration, marketing, and employment of teaching artists. I also coordinated the Scholarship Program and assure compliance with established policies, procedures, and budgets. I focused on maintaining outreach with community organizations and schools and representing the ACA in external education. My responsibilities also included managing fiscal expenditures and revenue including spending for program supplies and equipment; efficiency rate of related service providers; monitor student enrollment and attendance; and other fiscal issues.
I have experience writing grant proposals and connecting with community and state resources to secure funding for nonprofit programming. I am adept at designing, preparing, and circulating effective marketing materials and developing successful social media marketing campaigns to increase visibility and promote the mission of the organization. In addition to my practical experience and formal education, I have continued to pursue independent coursework and certifications in fundraising, education, marketing, and nonprofit management.
Over the past three years I have had the honor of presenting my research at several regional and international conferences on arts and humanities. I maintain membership and active involvement with the Southeastern College Arts Conference, the Inclusive Museum, the Athens Institute for Education and Research, and the Mid-American College Arts Association. My research and presentations span topics including spatial planning and visitor interactions with regard to exhibition design; examining methods to break down barriers to participation within the museum; and the cultural significance of mortuary and commemorative architecture.
I have served as the head of the fine arts program at Glenn Hills High School in Augusta, Georgia and on the visual arts faculty at the Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School in Augusta, Georgia. I am also serving as the Vice President of the Columbia County Arts Council in Augusta, Georgia, as well as the Treasurer of the Artists' Guild of Columbia County, as the Members' Exhibit Chair for the Georgia Arts Education Association, and as a member of the Board for the Pennsylvania State University Aiken/Augusta Alumni Club. I am an active member of the Young Professionals of Augusta, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators, and the Southeastern College Arts Conference.
